From a Problem to an Opportunity
The Gin Tonic originated in the 18th century as a remedy for malaria. British soldiers in India mixed gin with tonic water, which contained quinine—a compound extracted from the cinchona tree used to treat malaria. The bitter taste of quinine was unpleasant, so soldiers added gin, sugar, and lime to improve the flavor. Over time, the drink evolved from a medicinal solution into a refreshing cocktail enjoyed worldwide. Today, the Gin Tonic is a classic cocktail, known for its simplicity and balance of flavors.
